Watch Description
The Heuer Monaco is one of the most iconic designs ever to have come from the already iconic Heuer brand. The Monaco is a timepiece that is closely associated with motor racing, as well as with the actor Steve McQueen who wore the Heuer 1133B in the classic 1971 racing film "Le Mans".
The Heuer Monaco reference 1133 was part of a trio of watches that Heuer introduced in the year 1969 to house their then-new line of automatic chronograph movements. Heuer in joint partnership with Hamilton, Breitling, Buren, and Dubois-Depraz created and introduced the caliber 11 movements in 1969 to develop the first automatic chronograph movement.
While the watch was totally discontinued in the 1970s due to poor sales, in modern times we've wised up and are thankful to have current versions of the beloved square oddity sitting on retail shelves today. Here we have one of those contemporary pieces, with all its accompanying vintage charm.

A.I. Watch Review:
# TAG Heuer Monaco CW2111 Review by A.I. WatchMetrics
## Watch Summary
The TAG Heuer Monaco CW2111 is an iconic square-cased automatic chronograph embodying motorsport luxury with its bold cushion-shaped stainless steel case, distinctive left-aligned sub-dials reminiscent of the Steve McQueen Le Mans film watch, targeting enthusiasts and collectors who appreciate retro-racing style paired with modern reliability; it features the automatic Calibre 11 movement offering a 42-hour power reserve, 100m water resistance, and sporty yet versatile appeal for casual to semi-formal wear.
## Overall Watch Rating: 8.1/10.0
**Dials & Design Metric (9.5/10.0)** - The Monaco's legendary square case, perforated leather strap, and asymmetrical sub-dial layout deliver timeless racing elegance that outshines most modern sports chronos like the Breitling Navitimer.
**Material Metric (9.0/10.0)** - Premium 316L stainless steel construction with double AR-coated sapphire crystal and meticulous brushing/polishing rivals the durability and finish of Omega Seamaster cases.
**History & Innovation Metric (8.7/10.0)** - TAG Heuer's Monaco legacy from 1969 and pioneering square waterproof chrono design earn high marks, comparable to the cultural impact of the Rolex Daytona.
**Versatility Metric (8.5/10.0)** - This bold square chrono transitions seamlessly from track days to office attire, offering more statement-making flexibility than typical divers like the Seiko Prospex.
**Brand Metric (8.2/10.0)** - TAG Heuer holds strong entry-level luxury status with motorsport prestige, on par with Oris or Tudor in accessible high-craft appeal.
**Complications Metric (8.3/10.0)** - The reliable flyback-style chronograph performs smoothly for daily timing needs, matching the utility of Longines Spirit chronos.
**Rarity Metric (6.9/10.0)** - At its price point and steady production volume, it offers moderate exclusivity similar to non-limited Hamilton Khakis.
**Movement Metric (6.5/10.0)** - The workhorse Calibre 11 automatic provides solid ETA/Sellita-based reliability but lacks the refinement of in-house rivals like Zenith El Primero.
**Functions Metric (6.5/10.0)** - Core timekeeping, date, and chronograph functions deliver everyday utility on level with Citizen Eco-Drive chronos.
## Total Performance Score (TPS): 5.2
## WM Collector Grade: B
## Performance Insights: Exceptional design and materials shine brightest while movement and functions are solidly average, delivering strong collector value well above its implied $4,200 price point on the secondary market.
## TPS Interpretation: Good Value: Iconic styling and brand heritage exceed price-expected performance for a standout motorsport chronograph.
